Zhang Jian Zhong was born in 1937 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, in the Southwest region of China, bordering Tibet, Burma, Laos and Vietnam. He is one of the most well-known and highly regarded artists to emerge from the Yunnan region. We are pleased to announce that the Kunming City Government is now collecting Zhang Jian Zhong’s works as a national treasure. A new building is also being constructed to house the permanent exhibition of his works.
Zhang Jian Zhong was a prolific artist and well regarded in the art community in China. Since his passing in 2000, his work has been widely exhibited and collected throughout China. Many of Zhang Jian Zhong’s works depict abstract narratives of the ethereal beauty of earth and nature, both in Yunnan and abroad. The subjects and changes in style of many of these compositions were inspired by numerous cultural exchanges he had as a visiting artist to Australia, France, Germany, Sweden, Siberia and the U.S.
While many of Zhang Jian Zhong’s artworks have returned to China for permanent museum display, contact ArtXchange Gallery at info@artxchange.org if you are interested in available work.
